Privacy Policy

VoiceFlow Reader is a Chrome extension that reads webpages and user-selected text aloud. This policy explains what information the extension accesses and how it is used.
Information the extension accesses
When a user invokes VoiceFlow Reader, the extension accesses readable text, the page title, the page language, and the position of the current sentence in the active tab. It uses this information only to provide text-to-speech, sentence highlighting, optional page movement (including Smart Follow), selection reading, and click-to-jump navigation.
For click-to-jump, the extension processes the sentence and click position selected by the user. This interaction is used only to move playback to the requested sentence. It is not logged, retained, or sent to the developer.
Local processing and storage
VoiceFlow Reader does not send page text to the developer's servers. The latest reading text and playback position are stored only in Chrome's local extension storage so the session can be restored after the background reader sleeps or Chrome is reopened. This session data is not synchronized to the user's other devices.
The extension separately stores user preferences—selected voice, automatic voice choice, reading speed, highlighting choice, highlight color, and page-movement mode—using Chrome's synchronized extension storage.
Speech engines
Speech is produced through Chrome's text-to-speech API using voices available in Chrome, the operating system, or an installed speech engine. A voice identified by its provider as network-backed may process text according to that provider's privacy terms. VoiceFlow Reader does not operate its own speech server.
Permissions
- Active tab and website access: Read the page selected by the user, including readable content in embedded frames.
- Scripting: Extract readable text, highlight the active sentence, and enable click-to-jump.
- Text to speech: Speak the requested content.
- Storage: Save voice and playback preferences through Chrome sync and retain the latest reading session locally so progress can be restored.
- Context menus: Offer a command to read selected text.
Data retention and deletion
Page content and sentence-click interactions are not retained by the developer. The locally stored reading session is replaced when the user starts reading new content and can be removed by clearing the extension's data or uninstalling VoiceFlow Reader. Synchronized preferences can also be removed by clearing extension data.
Limited Use compliance
VoiceFlow Reader's use and transfer of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Information is used only to provide or improve the extension's single user-facing purpose and is not used for advertising, profiling, or unrelated purposes.
Changes to this policy
If the extension's data practices change, this policy and the Chrome Web Store privacy disclosures will be updated before the changed practices are released.
